About

The European Union Delegation to the African Union is offering a funded traineeship program for young graduates interested in international relations and diplomatic work. This 6-month program runs within the Political, Press and Information (PPI) Section of the EU Delegation in Addis Ababa, starting tentatively on May 1st, 2026. The traineeship provides hands-on experience in how the EU Delegation represents European interests and values in partnership with the African Union. Participants will work on high-level political affairs including follow-up to EU-AU ministerial conferences and summits, strategic communications, and policy research.

Who Can Apply

Applicants must currently reside in Ethiopia due to local health and security conditions. You need a Master's degree in political science, international relations, economics, law, or other social studies. Candidates must have less than one year of professional experience after graduation by the traineeship agreement signing date. Other traineeships, student jobs, or volunteer work during or after university are not counted as professional experience. Fluency in English is required along with excellent analytical, drafting, and communication skills. You should have strong capabilities in audiovisual production, social media content creation, and design platforms like Canva, plus a keen understanding of African Union politics, economics, and governance.

What You Get

Selected trainees receive a monthly grant to cover living expenses during the 6-month program. The role involves working on preparatory tasks for EU-AU ministerial conferences and summits, contributing to communication and visibility work including drafting press releases and organizing events, conducting research on political and cooperation issues, attending meetings and preparing minutes, creating videos and social media content, coordinating communication communities, and supporting policy development with focus on mobility, migration, youth, economic integration, and multilateral relations.
